The Lodge is very pleased to present recent paintings by Jake Sheiner on view from 10th July–8th August, 2021. The paintings are an intimate look through a personal lens at his hometown of Los Angeles, California and beyond.
Landscapes, interiors and selfies encompass the oeuvre of this recent work. Sheiner uses acrylic on panel to immortalize a brief moment or perspective of life in Los Angeles, California, his home and place of birth. The paintings focus on honest scenes from his everyday life, often invoking the subtly sinister nature of Los Angeles. Painted from his direct point of view, Sheiner’s works are filtered through the lens of his phone camera. Sheiner uses images taken from his immediate surroundings as a jumping off point for the work. The paintings attempt to convey humour in conjunction with serenity and tenderness.
